I get this question from time to time: "How much Agile do we really need?"

My answer:

Enough to serve the team and the product — not the process.

I often see two extremes:

  • Chaos disguised as “flexibility,” or

  • Overbearing process that slows everything down.

The right amount of Agile is whatever helps you:

  • Ship valuable work regularly,

  • Adapt fast when priorities shift,

  • Keep your engineers aligned and energized.

Sometimes that's just a whiteboard and a morning sync.

Sometimes it’s full sprints, tight ceremonies, or even SAFe — when the scale, complexity, and cross-team coordination really demand it.

Agile isn’t the goal. Building a resilient, high-performing organization is.

Enough Agile is when it helps more than it hurts.

How have you right-sized Agile for your team as you’ve grown?
